Reflections from my 1967 eyes! The Detroit Riot 50 Years Later!
1967 – 2017

The year is 1967. My family and I lived at 1978 LaSalle Gardens South in a four family flats building between 12th Street and 14th Street. Thirkell Elementary, a Detroit Public School still till this day is on the corner of 14th and LaSalle Gardens South. Across the street from my house 1978 LaSalle Gardens South was St. Agnes Catholic Church, School and campus that covered the half of the block on LaSalle Gardens South from 12th Street to Dundein.
On Wednesday, July 26, 1967 little did I know at 10 years old that my “Detroit Hot Fun Summer Day” that started early with a beautiful morning, by that afternoon my Detroit neighborhood would be engulfed in flames with fighting people with various violence and conflicting story. Then later that day while sitting on my family pouch, I witnessed with my father the wounding Mr. Lance Smith and the murder of Mr. George Talbert.
