Remembrances and Reflection: I had my eighth birthday earlier that month of July. Living in a neighborhood of northwest Detroit, near Southfield, life went on as usual. My folks are a blessed memory, so I am their voice now. Like ripples from a stone in a pond, our neighborhood was safe. But I knew my folks were concerned about my grandmother in Detroit. They talked about others; their friends. They cared. Today I remember a song, by Gordon Lightfoot, "Black Day in July." I never knew until now that this song was for Detroit.
